A man has died by suicide in Mwala, Machakos County, following a domestic incident that left his wife injured.
The 48-year-old was found hanging from the rafters of an unfinished house under construction at Kyawango Market in Mwala Sub-County on Saturday.
Mwala Sub-County Police Commander Fredrick Suter said the man had a rope around his neck and that his body was discovered during a police pursuit.
According to Commander Suter, the deceased had earlier attacked his wife with a machete before going into hiding. The woman was admitted to Machakos Level 5 Hospital, where she continues to receive treatment.
Police documented and processed the scene before removing the body to the hospital mortuary, awaiting an autopsy.
“This is a tragic incident, and investigations have been launched to determine all the circumstances surrounding the case,” Commander Suter said.
The incident comes just days after another body was retrieved from the Mto Wa Mawe River in Athi River, Machakos County. Police officers, working with local residents and guided by reports from a village elder, recovered the body of an unknown middle-aged man on Wednesday.
The body was also taken to Machakos Level 5 Hospital mortuary for a postmortem, with the scene fully processed by officers from Athi River and Kitengela police stations, alongside the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and Scene of Crime personnel.
Both incidents have prompted police to launch investigations to establish causes and identify any underlying issues. Authorities are urging residents to report suspicious activity promptly and remain vigilant.
