Two Kenyan lawmakers traded Parliament benches for pitch-side thrills in London as Arsenal FC delivered a commanding performance against Bayer 04 Leverkusen in a high-stakes UEFA Champions League clash.

Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse and his Wundanyi counterpart Danson Mwashako were among thousands of fans who packed the iconic Emirates Stadium to witness the Gunners secure a 2-0 win in the second leg, sealing their place in the quarterfinals.

Mutuse took to social media to describe the night as nothing short of electric, praising the intensity and quality on display despite distancing himself from Arsenal fandom.

“What a night at the Emirates Stadium, London. Arsenal vs Bayer 04 Leverkusen delivering pure football magic—intensity, passion, and world-class action. This is football at its finest,” he wrote.

In a light-hearted disclaimer, the MP clarified he was not jumping on the Arsenal bandwagon, even as he applauded the team’s brilliance.

“Disclaimer: I am not an Arsenal FC supporter but excellence must always be acknowledged. It was a remarkable night. The moment Declan Rice netted the second goal, the stadium came alive—an incredible display of passion and energy. Arsenal truly dominated with intensity, discipline, and class.”

But if Mutuse was playing neutral, Mwashako was fully in his element.

The Wundanyi MP, a self-confessed Arsenal die-hard, could barely contain his excitement after witnessing the action live, sharing his thrill online moments after the final whistle.

“I was live at the Emirates witnessing that stunning goal! Eze’s cool celebration and the teammates’ shocked faces—iconic! This Arsenal squad is making up for a decade of near misses in just one season. Gunner forever,” he posted.

This however seems to have rubbed some Kenyans the wrong way, stating that it was a mockery on the economic situation in the country.

“MPs have money for London trips to watch Arsenal FC but hospitals here have no medicine? This country is a joke.” Remarked @josemsaffi

@Gloriamumbe: “So viongozi can fly to Emirates Stadium for football but wananchi are told to tighten belts? Make it make sense!”

@jemmomicharazo: “Watching UEFA Champions League live in London while Kenyans can’t afford unga… leadership or luxury?”

@SosoWilly: “Si hiyo pesa ata ungefanya rennovations ya Uwanja wa Kibwezi jamani?”
