Queen Camilla made her first tiara appearance of the year at Windsor Castle this week, opting for a suite of historic and expensive sapphire jewels for a state banquet in St. George’s Hall.

She wore the Belgian Sapphire Tiara, a piece frequently seen at state occasions, according to People.

The tiara was paired with a cream embroidered gown and a diamond serpent necklace from her personal collection.

The Belgian Sapphire Tiara has become a consistent choice for formal engagements.

Since 2022, when she became Queen Consort alongside King Charles III, Camilla has often selected historic pieces associated with the royal collection, reflecting continuity within the monarchy.

According to InStyle, the tiara, previously owned by Queen Elizabeth II, is valued at approximately Sh 867.6m ($6.7 million).

The piece originated as a 19th-century sapphire necklace belonging to Princess Louise of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha before it was later converted into a tiara in the 1960s by Garrard, the royal jeweller.

Camilla also wore matching sapphire and diamond earrings that belonged to Queen Elizabeth II. The earrings, valued at about Sh 52.7m ($407,000), were a wedding gift to Elizabeth from King George VI in 1947.

Combined, the tiara and earrings form a sapphire set valued at over Sh 905m ($7 million). The jewellery was styled with a neutral-toned outfit, allowing the sapphires to remain the focal point.

InStyle notes that pieces such as the Belgian Sapphire Tiara reflect the broader approach to royal jewellery, where historic items are adapted and reused across generations.

Camilla’s jewellery choices in recent years have often drawn from Queen Elizabeth II’s collection, particularly for state events. These selections typically balance visibility with historical significance.

The banquet served as both a diplomatic occasion and an example of how royal jewellery continues to reflect heritage and continuity within the monarchy.
