A U.S.-based quadruple amputee and professional cornhole player faces murder charges after allegedly shooting a front-seat passenger during an argument in La Plata, Maryland.
Dayton Webber, 27, who made history as the first quadruple amputee to compete in televised American Cornhole League events.
According to BBC, he is accused of opening fire on Bradrick Michael Wells, also 27, in a car over the weekend, before dumping the body, authorities said.
Police said other passengers in the car, who refused to help Webber dispose of the body, reported the killing. Wells’ body was later found 32 kilometres away in Charlotte Hall, Maryland.
The sheriff’s office said backseat passengers witnessed Webber shoot Wells and that he then asked them to help remove the victim from the car.
They refused, leaving Webber to flee with Wells still inside. All the passengers were known to each other, authorities added.
The American Cornhole League said in a statement, “Our thoughts are with all those impacted, including the family and loved ones of Bradrick Michael Wells.”
Webber, who lost all four limbs as a baby to a blood infection, wrote in a 2023 essay for NBC’s Today, “They told my parents there was only a 3% chance that I’d survive. I went from overcoming a serious blood infection and undergoing a quadruple amputation as a baby to becoming a professional athlete as an adult.”
His social media features videos of him shooting guns, including clips titled “No Hands No Feet Shooting,” and promotes him as a motivational speaker.
