Maseno School marks 120 years, unveils Sh2bn upgrade blueprint

Maseno School will mark 120 years of excellence with a ceremony set for April 10, 2026, an event expected to attract influential figures in education, business and public service.

Founded in 1906 by John Jamieson Willis, the institution has grown from a mission school under a fig tree into one of Kenya’s leading national schools, producing generations of leaders.

As the school turns 120, organisers say the celebrations will go beyond nostalgia.

Dubbed Maseno@120Years, the event will combine reflection on the past with plans for the future. Organisers, the Old Boys and Friends of Maseno School working with the school’s management, say the day will highlight key milestones while outlining a new vision.

Activities will include exhibitions of historical artefacts, student performances and storytelling sessions on the school’s history.

A key highlight will be the unveiling of a Sh2 billion redevelopment masterplan aimed at upgrading infrastructure, academic facilities and the overall student experience. The plan seeks to position the school as a leading institution in the region.

Organisers say the vision is rooted in the founding principle of building institutions that endure across generations.

The event will also see the launch of the Maseno School Foundation, aimed at supporting bright but needy students. The foundation will mobilise resources from alumni and partners to fund scholarships and student support programmes.

Organisers say the initiative will strengthen access to education by ensuring financial challenges do not limit opportunities.

The celebration is also expected to double as a major reunion, bringing together alumni from different generations alongside leaders from the public and private sectors.

Chair of the Old Boys and Friends of Maseno School Foundation, Joe Owaka Ager, has invited alumni and stakeholders to attend, describing the event as “history in motion.”
