The 2026 MOBO Awards made a triumphant debut in the vibrant city of Manchester, United Kingdom on Thursday, spotlighting Black music and culture with a touch of impressive international talent.
This milestone event celebrated Black excellence across all genres, attracting an overwhelming support for homegrown heroes, talents and global icons alike.
Nigerian sensations mostly stole the show in the international categories with Wizkid clinching the Best African Music Act, beating his fellow Nigerians Davido, Rema, Shallipopi, Tiwa Savage, and Adekunle Gold.
The 35-year old also defeated Uganda’s Joshua Baraka, Ghana’s Moliy, and South Africa’s Tyla.
Meanwhile, Ayra Starr reigned in Best International Act, surpassing heavyweights like Cardi B, Gunna, Kehlani, Clipse, Leon Thomas, Mariah The Scientist, and self-proclaimed international dancehall king, Vybz Kartel.
YouTuber and prankster Niko Omilana was not left behind the Nigerian band wagon by winning Best Media Personality, beating contenders like Bemi Orojuogun (Bus Aunty), DJ AG, Melissa Holdbrook-Akposoe (Melissa’s Wardrobe), Nadia Jae, PK Humble, Remi Burgz, Uche Natori, and Winners Talking.
United Kingdom talents like Jim Legxacy scooped Best Male Act over the fiery Central Cee, Elmiene, Nemzzz, Odeal, and Skepta.
Olivia Dean swept Best Female Act and Album of the Year for The Art of Loving.
Her hit song “Man I Need” won Song of the Year, beating several others like AJ Tracey who featured Jorja Smith in “Crush”.
Other standout acts included Central Cee for Best Hip Hop Act, with Adidja Palmer aka Vybz Kartel, winning Best Caribbean Music Act.
In TV and film, Cynthia Erivo won in Wicked, while Damson Idris got recognition in F1, with Pharrell Williams receiving the Global Songwriting Award.
