Media personality Shaffie Weru has sparked mixed reactions online after appearing at a high-profile wedding carrying a customised walking stick designed to resemble a snake.
Weru was among guests at the wedding of online personality Ronnie Kiprono and Terry Mwendwa, held at the Karen Blixen Museum in Nairobi.
He arrived dressed in a light green suit, black shoes and sunglasses, completing his look with the distinctive snake-themed walking stick, which quickly became a talking point on social media.
In viral clips seen by TNX Africa, Weru is also seen walking alongside Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi and other prominent guests.
Reactions online were sharply divided.
On Instagram, Breezy commented, “Wale wa ako Illuminati, the floor is yours.”
Another user, Parsely, wrote, “Theme is inspired by Moses.”
On Facebook, Jon Kibet questioned the choice, saying, “Why carry a walking stick resembling a snake to a wedding. Something wrong. In Kalenjin, that’s bad omen and witchcraft.”
During Kalenjin weddings, particularly koito, the walking stick, known as Siarit, serves as a profound symbol of authority, lineage, and the gravity of the union being formed.
Kiprono’s wedding itself drew a high-profile guest list, including President William Ruto and First Lady Rachael Ruto, alongside senior government officials such as Belgut MP Nelson Koech and UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar.
The ceremony, held on April 11, was marked by luxury and elaborate displays. Guests and the couple arrived in a convoy of high-end vehicles, including several Mercedes Benz G-Wagons.
Ronnie Kiprono wore a jungle green suit paired with white trousers and a matching bow tie, while Terry Mwendwa appeared in a white backless gown decorated with beadwork.
President Ruto addressed the couple and posed for photographs with the First Lady, the newlyweds and their families. The presidential couple also presented the pair with a painting of a home.
Kiprono is known for his digital content creation and involvement in Kenya’s drag racing scene, where he participates in high-speed events in a Nissan GT-R R35. Mwendwa works in the financial services sector.
