Uganda’s Speaker of Parliament Anita Among turned heads at President Yoweri Museveni’s swearing-in ceremony after arriving in a designer outfit valued at more than KSh1.4 million or 40.7 million Ugandan shillings.
The influential legislator attended the high-profile inauguration in an elegant pastel yellow ensemble by luxury fashion house Oscar de la Renta, quickly becoming one of the most talked-about guests at the event.
Anita wore the brand’s Porcelain Flower Embroidered Dress in butter yellow, paired with a matching embroidered cropped jacket from the same collection.

The sleeveless midi dress featured delicate pink floral embroidery cascading from the shoulder down one side, while the jacket carried matching detailing across the shoulder area.
She completed the look with burgundy pointed heels, a pink floral fascinator and a matching designer handbag, presenting a coordinated ceremonial style suited to the state occasion.
Based on prices listed on Oscar de la Renta’s official website, the dress retails at about KSh880,000, while the jacket costs roughly KSh676,000, bringing the outfit’s combined value to more than KSh1.4 million before accessories.
On the brand’s website, the jacket is described as being made of 94% cashmere, 5% elastane and 1% polyamide, with a 100% silk lining.
“This cropped jacket is tailored from double-faced stretch wool and finished with sculptural porcelain flower embroidery at the shoulder. The clean, collarless silhouette enhances the artistry of the hand-applied detailing,” the description reads, positioning it as a refined complement to the dress.
The dress is similarly detailed in its design notes, bearing the same formwork.
“Rendered in double-faced stretch wool, this sheath dress is adorned with dimensional porcelain flower embroidery that climbs gracefully along the silhouette. The structured form is balanced by the softness of hand-stitched blooms,” the site adds.
Online reactions, particularly from Ugandans, quickly followed the appearance, with social media users debating the display of luxury.
“Her Rolls Royce needs her to wear expensive clothes… ain’t no way she can wear USD 100 in the dope car,” one user commented.
“Anita owns big businesses both in Uganda and abroad that earn her over $3M per year, besides her involvement in politics, so if you put yourself more into her, you will die of anxiety,” another defended.
The colourful inauguration drew regional dignitaries to Kampala as President Museveni was sworn in once again, extending his long-standing rule.
The event featured military parades and cultural displays, underscoring its role as a major political showcase for East Africa’s elite.
Kenya’s presence highlighted diplomatic ties, with Deputy President Kithure Kindiki representing President William Ruto. He was accompanied by Kenya’s High Commissioner to Uganda, Ababu Namwamba, reflecting Nairobi’s continued regional engagement.
Beyond the political symbolism, the ceremony was marked by tight security and a high-profile gathering of influential figures from across the region, as thousands watched Museveni take the oath of office once more.
