Sean “Diddy” Combs has encountered a legal setback after federal authorities pushed back his projected prison release date by nearly two months.

The change follows recent reports alleging that the music mogul has enjoyed unauthorised privileges while incarcerated at FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey, including access to smuggled alcohol, contraband communication devices and personal services from other inmates.

Bureau of Prisons records show that Combs’ expected release date has moved from January 21, 2028, to March 8, 2028.

According to news reports, Combs allegedly distributed thousands of dollars to fellow inmates to procure items such as cognac and mobile phones, while also enlisting other prisoners to handle domestic chores and perform massages.

Combs’ representatives dismissed the coverage as media sensationalism over routine prison life, maintaining that he continues to comply with institutional rules while awaiting the outcome of his legal appeal.

Correctional officials declined to address the specific allegations but reiterated their commitment to curbing contraband and investigating reports of employee misconduct.

The release date adjustment is the latest development following Combs’ October 2025 sentencing, when a federal judge handed him a 50-month prison term, five years of supervised release and a Sh64.95 million ($500,000) fine.

The sentence followed a split verdict in his federal trial, where a jury convicted him on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution involving his former girlfriend Cassie Ventura and another woman identified as “Jane”.

Jurors acquitted Combs of sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy charges. However, prosecutors during the 29-day trial presented testimony, text messages and digital evidence alleging a long-standing pattern of coercion, substance use and physical abuse involving his personal staff.

Combs did not testify during the trial. At sentencing, he expressed remorse to his victims before beginning his prison term.
