Singer Selena Gomez has revealed that vaping nicotine affected her singing and speaking voice, warning fans that the habit is not worth the damage it can cause.
In a recent Instagram video, the 34-year-old singer opened up about her struggle with nicotine addiction, saying the habit had changed her voice and that she was unsure whether it would return to its previous state.
“I’m not gonna be able to change my voice. I vaped nicotine a lot. Nicotine is so hard to quit and I just wanted to say, if you’re going through it, or if you’re even trying to vape, it’s just not worth it. It’s so stupid and it changed my voice. So if you guys don’t like listening to my voice, that’s totally understandable. I don’t mind. Just don’t listen to it,” the Calm Down singer said.
Gomez said she had recently quit vaping and hoped to remain nicotine-free, while acknowledging that overcoming the addiction was difficult.
Her comments come amid years of online discussions about changes in her voice, with some fans noting that it has become deeper and raspier.
However, the singer’s health history also includes lupus, an autoimmune disease she was diagnosed with in 2015. The condition can cause inflammation in different parts of the body, although it has not been established that lupus contributed to the changes in her voice.
In 2017, Gomez underwent a kidney transplant after complications related to the disease. Her friend Francia Raisa donated the kidney.
Her admission has sparked mixed reactions online, with some social media users expressing concern about the health risks associated with vaping, particularly given her medical history.
Others praised the singer for speaking openly about nicotine addiction, with fans welcoming her warning and encouraging others struggling with the habit to quit.
