Kenya Pipeline Volleyball Club ready for Africa test

Kenya Pipeline Women’s  Volleyball Team expressed their desire to go one better at this year’s Africa Women’s Volleyball Club Championship scheduled April 1st-14th in Abuja,Nigeria.

Pipeline finished third in last year’s edition held in Cairo, Egypt and are eager to recapture the title they last won 20 years ago.

Head coach Geoffrey Omondi said the team is well-prepared and determined to bring home the title.

‘‘We stepped up our preparations. We have had two friendlies, and we still want to have two more that will give us a final gauge of where we are. The girls are in high spirits and are ready to bring back the trophy,’’ stated Omondi.

Team captain Gladys Ekaru, reiterated similar sentiments, emphasizing the team’s determination and confidence.

“Our training has been intense, and the friendly matches have really helped us fine-tune our game. We are fully focused and motivated to give our best and make our fans proud,” she said.

KPC Managing Director Joe Sang  while flagging off the team challenged the squad to do well in the championship reiterating the company’s support to the side that’s one of the decorated sides in the history of the championship with five titles.

‘‘Sports for us means a lot. We have invested in volleyball for over forty years. We use the volleyball team as our brand ambassador to tell the world what we do,’’ said Mr. Sang.

Head coach Omondi has a fully fit squad at his disposal including experienced middle blocker Trizah Atuka,Noel Murambi and Leonida Kasaya.

The rest of the team members include: setters Emmaculate Nekesa and Faith Imodia, opposite players Noel Murambi and Loice Simiyu,Marian Sokoiyo, Trizah Atuka, Gladys Ekaru, Lydia Emokol will be the middle blockers. Left attackers include Daisy Leting, Leonida Kasaya, Mariam Musa and Betty Sifuna while the liberos will be Agrippina Kundu and Celestine Nafula.

Kenya Pipeline will be joined in the championship by KCB and Kenya Prisons and will battle 24 otyher clubs for the continental title that’s currently being held by Zamalek.
