Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii has resorted to making impromptu visits to project sites as calls for the completion of signature programmes intensify.
His impromptu visit comes just days after the governor expressed displeasure in the manner in which his administration’s legacy projects were implemented.
Last week, a furious governor Bii told some county executive committee members that their departments had failed him by not meeting targets under his pre-election agenda.
“I have been humiliated enough by the people I serve. It’s not going to be business as usual; it’s either you perform or I kick you out. People are accusing me of a poor development record in project implementation just because of individuals who are there to frustrate my administration,” said Bii.
He kicked off the impromptu tours in Tuigoin (Centre Kwanza) and Murgor villages in Tapsagoi Ward, Turbo Sub-County on Tuesday where locals pointed fingers and questioned the ability of his executives to deliver on projects.
The county chief inspected water, rural roads and agricultural projects during day one of the impromptus.
Tuigoin (Centre Kwanza)-Murgor Bridge was among the flagship projects he inspected.
“The new bridge is a game changer in enhancing the road network in this region and other parts of the county. My administration is committed to ensuring that such projects are implemented on time to solve the challenges people have faced for so long,” he stated.
Residents urged the county to expedite the completion of the bridge, saying it will ease the transportation of agricultural produce to markets.
“It has been a challenge for us to cross this river, and sometimes we don’t have any other alternative route but to risk our lives by crossing the river when it is flooded. We are so grateful for your intervention,” a resident, Amos Chirchir, said.
Additionally, the governor also urged his critics to give him ample time to deliver on his mandate.
He accused some individuals of forming false allegations following an appearance before the Senate committee recently.
“It’s normal and procedural for the Senate to summon any person, including the governor, to answer to questions and to make clarifications for accountability and transparency. My critics should not use this as a weapon to frustrate my government,” he added.
