Kenya and the United States are dedicated to promoting peace and stability in Sudan, according to Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.

During a meeting with a U.S. delegation led by Peter Lord, Deputy Assistant Secretary for East Africa, Sudan, and South Sudan, on the sidelines of the London–Sudan Conference at Lancaster House, Mudavadi disclosed that both countries are focused on the urgent need to expedite the peace process and support efforts toward a unified Sudan.

“The U.S. acknowledged Kenya’s role in promoting regional peace, particularly in the Great Lakes Region, and reaffirmed their support for ongoing initiatives in Sudan,” said the Prime CS.

Mudavadi was accompanied by Attorney General Dorcas Oduor, National Security Advisor Amb. Monica Juma, and High Commissioner Catherine Karembu during the discussions.

The Prime Cabinet Secretary and the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs is attending the conference at the invitation of the UK government.

“Mudavadi will present Kenya’s stance on regional peace and security in the Greater Horn of Africa, particularly concerning the ongoing conflict in Sudan, which has now entered its third year and resulted in thousands of deaths and millions displaced, including women and children,” read a statement from his office.

Since the conflict began, Kenya has welcomed key Sudanese stakeholders from both sides, including top leaders from the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), special envoys from the parties, representatives of local communities, civil society, political parties, and armed movements, in an effort to bring an end to the war.

Mudavadi has emphasized that Kenya supports a unified Sudan for its people, advocates for a Sudanese-led political process with the support of external actors, and opposes military solutions to political disputes.
