Coachella music festival is already happening and a couple of African stars have and will be gracing the stage.

South Africa’s Tyla, Nigeria’s Rema, Seun Kuti & Egypt 80, and Ghana’s Amaarae are among the few chosen to represent this year.

Tyla, the Grammy-winning South African sensation, is set to make her highly anticipated Coachella debut after an injury forced her to cancel last year’s appearance.

Nigerian superstar Rema, a global ambassador for Afrobeats, made his Coachella debut on Sunday and will be back this coming Sunday.  With chart-topping tracks like “Calm Down” and a record-breaking streaming career, Rema’s set is expected to bring his signature blend of Afrobeats and pop to the Stage.

Despite a reported rocky start during the first weekend due to technical delays, fans are optimistic about his second performance, anticipating the electrifying energy he’s known for.

Seun Kuti, the Afrobeat pioneer and son of Fela Kuti also returns to Coachella for his third appearance, joined by his father’s legendary band, Egypt 80. His set will honour Afrobeat’s roots while pushing its boundaries.

Ghana’s Amaarae, known for her mix of Afrobeats, soul, and alté, will mark a significant achievement as the first Ghanaian solo artist to grace the stage.

Coachella is an annual music and arts festival held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, transforming the desert into a cultural hub for two weekends.

The musical extravaganza features artists across genres like pop, hip-hop, rock, electronic, and more, drawing over 125,000 attendees per weekend.

Beyond music, the festival showcases stunning art installations, immersive experiences, and a vibrant atmosphere, making it a bucket-list event for fans worldwide.

Headliners this year include Lady Gaga, Green Day, Post Malone, and Travis Scott, with African artists like Tyla and Rema sharing the spotlight.
