Ugandan music legend Jose Chameleone will step onto a different kind of stage, one not just for performance, but for prayer and gratitude.
The iconic artiste is set to host a special Thanksgiving event at Saint Joseph Lweza Parish, an emotional homecoming and a deeply personal moment of reflection following a harrowing health journey.
Under the banner of his record label, Lyon Island Music Empire, the event promises to be more than just music. It’s a heartfelt call for togetherness, faith, and appreciation for the gift of life.
The celebration has been organised to give thanks to God for Chameleone’s life and restored health after months of battling a serious illness.
“You are warmly invited to a Thanksgiving Mass to praise and thank God for the life and health of Dr. Jose Chameleone,” reads a poster shared widely across his social media platforms. The event’s tagline, is “Let us come together in prayer and gratitude,”
Chameleone, whose real name is Joseph Mayanja, recently returned home after spending four months in the United States undergoing specialised treatment for acute pancreatitis, a condition that sparked deep concern among fans and public discussions about his lifestyle. He was receiving care in Minnesota, where he had gone for advanced medical attention after his health took a sudden and serious downturn.
The news of his illness struck a chord across the country and even beyond. For many Ugandans, Chameleone is more than a musician, he’s a cultural icon, a voice of a generation, and a figure whose music has provided the soundtrack to countless lives.
When Chameleone finally touched down at Entebbe International Airport a few days ago, he was welcomed by a jubilant crowd of supporters. Videos showed fans welcoming him as they greeted the man who has given so much to Uganda’s music industry.
Today’s Thanksgiving event will be a moment of release and reflection, not just for Chameleone, but for everyone who walked this journey with him. Fellow artists are expected to attend in large numbers, turning the event into a reunion of Uganda’s music fraternity.
