Transport Licensing
Appeals Board Tribunal has ordered Super Metro to sack 269 drivers.

The decision stems from a
hearing involving the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and
Supermetro Sacco Limited.

“It is ordered that the
appellant (Super Metro) shall immediately disengage 269 drivers as per the list
marked ‘SPM7′ annexed to the respondent (NTSA) replying affidavit sworn on
April 10, 225,” the order reads.

In addition to the mass
dismissal, Sacco must submit 31 vehicles with identified compliance issues
for inspection at the Likoni Motor Vehicle Inspection Centre.

The Sacco will then be
required to submit compliance reports to the NTSA Directorate of Safety.

The ruling also requires
42 vehicles with speeding violations to be retested at the Likoni Driver
Test Centre.

“The appellant shall
immediately deliver eight identified vehicles with various violations related
to speed limiters for compliance check at the Likoni Motor Vehicle Inspection
Centre,” the orders added.

Further, Super Metro has
been directed to immediately furnish the minutes and the attendance list of the Road Safety Sensitization of all its drivers to the NTSA Director of Safety.

The tribunal also
reinstated the NTSA’s directive for the Sacco to cease operations, pending
further orders upon confirmation of compliance with the terms of the orders.

The matter will be
mentioned on April 17, 2025, to confirm compliance and issuance of further
directions.

The orders come barely a
day after Super Metro announced that it will suspend its services for three
days.

The Sacco said it has
achieved 90 per cent compliance with the directives issued by the NTSA and the
Transport Licensing Appeals Board (TLAB).

On March 20, Super Metro
operations were suspended to ensure the company is compliant with road safety
measures.

However, days later, the
tribunal temporarily lifted the suspension, allowing the fleet of buses to
resume normal operations.
