The Murang’a County Assembly leadership has been challenged to facilitate MCAs with internet-enabled devices to facilitate oversight.

In a report of the ICT committee, the MCAs seek the adoption of technology to make the assembly paperless.

The assembly also passed the proposal to have the revenue collectors be provided with internet-enabled gadgets to facilitate revenue collection.

The report by the ICT committee Chairman, Moses Mirara, outlined that automation has helped to end the manipulation of public resources and safeguarded public land.

In land management, the system provides a platform for automated generation and secure development application registers.

“The system will be rolled out across the county for the provision of better services and to stop encroachment of public utilities,” said Gitugi MCA Edwin Wairagu, seconding the motion.

The report further stated that automation two years ago increased revenue collection. In 2023/2024, the county government collected its own source revenue of a Sh1 billion shillings.

The digitalisation assisted in channeling revenue from parking fees, hospital bills, quarry fees, and business permits to the county government.

The assembly said internet downtime disrupts services and inconveniences the customers and the county government.

The committee recommended continuous improvement on the system to address the internet downtime and capability to handle heavy data at a reasonable speed.
