Ugandan music legend Jose Chameleone has been in Nairobi for the last couple of days, and his arrival is making waves.
The celebrated artiste dropped by to see Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro at his KICC office, transforming a simple meeting into a vibrant exchange filled with nostalgia, discussions about music, and deep admiration.
The youthful MP could not hold back his excitement over Chameleone’s catalogue of bangers. “Tubonge is a hit, man!” he said, clearly a fan.
Chameleone, always down-to-earth, took a moment to show love to Maina Kageni, calling him a real one who has been there from day one.
“When I first came to Nairobi in 1999, I didn’t know any Swahili. Maina knew me before the famebefore the chase. After Tubonge, I can’t even walk around easily!” he said.
The singer did not stop there.
He opened up about the tight bond between Kenya and Uganda, saying, “There’s no country closer to Uganda than Kenya. Back in the day, Kenya was like New York for East Africa.”
Maina, never one to let a good conversation slip, brought up “Wale Wale”, a track he thinks is seriously underrated. When asked where the video was shot, Chameleone dropped a gem.
“It was done by Sasha Vybes in Congo. First time I went to Bukavu, I was shocked. Congo is so rich, but people live in poverty while the wealthy live large. It really hit me we’re all human, but there’s wale na wale (those who have and those who don’t). That’s what inspired the song.”
On his Instagram, the artiste shared photos of the meeting thanking the legislator for his support.
“Another beautiful day! Thank you Ndindi Nyoro for the kindness not only in words but in action too. May God continue to bless you as you serve the people of Kenya. We are Africa and Africa is our business. Hon Ndindi Nyoro|Kiharu constituency. Thank you for all the advise my brother see you soon again. Asante Sana,” he posted.
The visit also comes at a vulnerable time for Chameleone, who is in Kenya for medical treatment after being hospitalised in the U.S. for several months. Despite the health battles, the star is still sharp, still real, and still reflecting deeply on life and music
