Interior PS Raymond Omollo Speaking in Homa Bay County during the burial of the late Preskila Koyo.

Residents of Homa Bay County have been urged to take full advantage of the upcoming Madaraka Day celebration, which will be hosted in the county for the first time on June 1.

Interior PS Raymond Omollo called on locals to welcome guests warmly and explore the business opportunities that will come with hosting the historical national event.

Speaking in Homa Bay on Saturday during the burial of the late Preskila Koyo, Omollo emphasized that the county is entering a unique moment in history and urged residents to showcase the best of the region.

“I want to encourage all of us to make this a celebration of a kind,” he said.

The PS added, “The whole country is coming to Homa Bay. Let’s welcome our visitors and make sure they find us ready. Our homes, businesses, and public spaces should reflect our hospitality and readiness.”

He pointed out that preparations are well underway, including the expansion of Raila Odinga Stadium to accommodate 10,000 people and improvements to roads and infrastructure to support the celebrations.

“This is a chance for our people to benefit economically,” he said, adding that hotels, shops, and transport operators should be ready to serve the increased number of visitors.

He noted that this is not just a one-day event but an opportunity for growth and long-term impact.

Residents have been urged to take pride in hosting the event and seize the moment to grow their businesses, promote local culture, and build lasting networks as the entire country turns its eyes on Homa Bay.

“Even after Madaraka Day, we will continue to benefit from the resources and opportunities brought by the national government,” he added.

“Let us stay united and focused on service delivery to our people.”

Omollo at the same time acknowledged the prevailing political calm in the country, brought about by the unity between President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

He commended Odinga for embracing the broad-based government and said the collaboration between the two leaders has created a stable environment for development.

“All leaders should support this unity. It’s for the good of all Kenyans, and it’s what is allowing events like Madaraka Day to come to places like Homa Bay.”
