The government, through the Ministry of Health, has announced
that the posting of Medical Interns will commence on July 1, 2025.

In a statement on Tuesday, the ministry said the posting
will be done by a balloting exercise that will be carried out by the Kenya
Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.

This, the state said, will ensure a swift placement process.

“The Ministry of Health will post the next cohort of Medical
interns with effect from 1st July 2025. To facilitate a smooth posting process,
the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) will conduct
balloting for pre-intern graduates on Wednesday, 30th April 2025.

“The placement list generated from the balloting exercise
will guide the posting of interns to their respective internship centres,” the Ministry
of Health said.

According to the ministry, the Interns will start receiving
information about where they will be posted from May 2.

It further reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the
growth of health workers and strengthening healthcare service delivery across
the country.

“Interns are expected to receive the outcome of their
individual balloting results immediately after the online balloting process on
30th April, 2025, and the Ministry will receive the outcome of the balloting by
Friday, 2nd May, 2025.”

This comes a few weeks after Healthcare workers in Nairobi
took to the streets in protest, demanding fair treatment and job security.

Led by the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and
Dentists Union (KMPDU), the doctors marched to the Social Health Authority
(SHA) headquarters, the Ministry of Health and Parliament, delivering a
petition warning of a nationwide strike if intern salaries were cut.

On April 10, however, the health workers announced that following
a meeting with newly-appointed Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, he had agreed to
solve the doctors’ pay arrears and posting of interns in a fortnight.

“We expect this matter to be resolved within two weeks,”
KMPDU Secretary General Dr. Davji Atellah.
