In an outcome that was least expected, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) upset the form book by humbling former Kenya Volleyball Federation Women’s National League champions Kenya Pipeline 3-1 in a match played yesterday at Nyayo outdoor court.

DCI bounced back from the loss on Saturday to former title holders Kenya Prisons to end the Oilers’ flawless run that had seen them remain unbeaten until yesterday.

Going against Pipeline, who are fresh from winning bronze at the African Volleyball Club Championship in Abuja, Nigeria, the sleuths staged a brave fight from start to finish.

Pipeline settled in the match first and seemed to be in control of the game even as DCI struggled to find their footing.

After minutes of playing catch-up, DCi clawed their way into the game to take the first set 25-23. The Oilers recovered in the second set to draw level with a 25-21 score.

The third and fourth sets were evenly contested, with both sides alternating to score points. However, it was the DCI side that seemed determined to carry the day that broke away to take the third set 25-20 for a 2-1 lead.

The Oilers fought tooth and nail to salvage the match in the fourth see, but DCI outsmarted them to snatch victory 25-23.

Kenya Prisons topped the table with 27 points from nine wins and a loss after their opponents, Vihiga Volleyball Clu,b failed to honour the match.

Defending champions KCB Bank finished second with 26 points from eight wins and two losses.

Pipeline, who had been on top of the table for the entire season, are third with 25 points from nine wins and a loss. The oil merchants had dropped five points from the loss to DCI and their 3-2 wins against Kenya Prisons and KCB Bank.
