In the vibrant landscape of African music, the name Diamond Platnumz stands out with remarkable significance. This talented artiste from Tanzania has recently celebrated a groundbreaking milestone by becoming the first African musician to amass 10 million subscribers on YouTube.

This extraordinary accomplishment not only underscores his profound influence within the East African music industry but also cements his status on the global entertainment stage, showcasing the growing reach and appeal of African artists worldwide.

For the man born Nasibu Abdul Juma, it is more than just a number. It is a reflection of over a decade’s worth of passion, hustle, and magnetic showmanship. With bongo flava hits like Number One, Jeje, Waah, and Yope Remix, Diamond has proven time and again that language is no barrier to impact.

His over 1000 videos, vibrant, polished, and deeply rooted in African culture regularly pull in tens of millions of views, turning YouTube into his virtual stadium.

To put Diamond’s achievement in context, let us take a look at where other African heavyweights stand:

Burna Boy, Nigeria’s Grammy-winning Afro-fusion giant, currently boasts over 5.31 with 298 official videos on YouTube million subscribers. His visuals are globally lauded and his “Last Last” anthem is a certified smash, but he still trails Diamond in pure YouTube numbers.

Fally Ipupa, the Congolese sensation and king of rumba, has made big strides with 4.92 million subs and 270 videos on his channel, and a strong visual presence, but still a long way from Diamond’s territory.

Davido, known for his electrifying hits and international collabos, hovers around 4.44 million YouTube subscribers with287 videos on his channel. His 2023 album “Timeless” broke records across platforms, but on YouTube, Diamond reigns supreme.

Wizkid, another Nigerian legend, clocks in with around 3.35 million subscribers with 163 videos on his channel. Despite global chart success and a rabid fanbase, Starboy seems to focus more on streaming platforms like Apple Music and Spotify.

In Kenya, Bahati leads the pack with 1.5 million YouTube subscribers, with 320 videos running on his YouTube channel.

This milestone is more than a win for one man. It is a moment for East Africa, a region that has often played second fiddle to West Africa’s dominant music exports. With this achievement, Diamond sends a loud message: Bongo flava is global.
