Stealing, offenses against persons are most reported crimes in 2024

Stealing, offenses against persons are most reported crimes in 2024

Stealing and other offenses against persons were the most reported
crimes in 2024, a new report by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS)
has shows.

The report dubbed ‘Economic Survey 2025’ said the two
offenses accounted for 17,560 and 24,972 cases.

The third highest reported cases were penal code offences at
14,959.

Dangerous drugs followed with 8,231, offenses against
morality (7,523), Breakings (5,734), criminal damage (5,120), Economic crimes (4,610),
Robbery (3,642), Homicide (3,015), theft of stock (2,442), theft by servant (1,568),
theft of vehicles and other thefts (1,383), offences involving police officers
(246), corruption (104), traffic offences (72) and offences involving tourists
(39).

Overall, crimes reported dropped to 101,220 in 2024, compared to
104,842 in 2023.

The Economic Survey report is an annual publication prepared
by the KNBS that provides socio-economic information covering five years.

Statistics presented in survey reports are produced in line
with internationally sound and scientific methods that are anchored on the
fundamental principles of producing official statistics.

In particular, the report presents information on all
sectors of the economy based on the Kenya Standard Industrial classification of
all Economic Activities (KESIC), as well as information on other emerging
topical issues.

Data quality is expressed in terms of dimensions in line
with international best practices and recommendations.
