United States International University of Africa (USIU-A) dislodged former champions Butali Warriors from the top of the Kenya Hockey Union Men’s Premier League table.

The students have 10 points, same as second-placed Wazalendo Hockey Club, who had a fruitful weekend winning their two ties against KCA University and Parklands Sports Club with an identical 3-2 score.

USIU-A on the other hand had a dull outing suffering their first defeat of the season and managing one point from their 2-2 draw against former holders Kenya Police.

The outcome saw them drop crucial points in one weekend. They top the standings due to a superior goal difference. Warriors, who are the only side that remains unbeaten, are third tied on nine points with their archrivals Nairobi Sikh Union.

Butali have won all their three matches, while Sikh Union have played four, losing one to Butali.

Police, who are having a dull season and are yet to regain their footing, are fifth with four points from a win, a draw and two losses.

Defending champions Western Jaguars are sixth with four points from three matches, while Strathmore University Gladiators and Parklands Sports Club are seventh and eighth with three points each.

KCA, who are yet to taste victory, lead from the bottom, while Daikyo Heroes, who lost their season opener 5-0 to Wazalendo, are above them in ninth place.

In the Women’s Premier League battle, champions Blazers Hockey Club maintained their top spot despite not being in action.

They have 10 points from four outings having dropped two points in a barren draw to top tier debutants Kisumu Queens who are second. Queens and Lakers also have ten points but have played one more match and have an inferior goal difference.

Sliders, who beat USIU-A Spartans 2-1 on Saturday, moved four places up to fourth place with seven points, same as Kenyatta University Titans who dropped one place to fifth.
