Kenyan songstress Akothee has dared her critics to match her philanthropic prowess, after posting a sh2.9million bill that she foots at her school, Akothee Academy.
In a fiery Facebook post Akothee often called “The GOAT of Philanthropists” shared her academy’s detailed budget for the upcoming school term. The post was not just about numbers; it was a bold message to naysayers who question how she spends her money.
“Before you open your mouth to insult me or question what I do with my money, rich or broke, have a look at that list,” she wrote, attaching a meticulous budget breakdown from Akothee Academy in Rakwaro.
The budget covers everything from school shoes and uniforms to food supplies, salaries, and security; with figures totaling sh2.996,700. Fuel and salaries get the lion share with each getting sh 408,000 and sh690,000 respectively.
For anyone criticising her, she invites them to pick just one item on the list and sponsor it for a year without defaulting.
“Na uweka Fullstop,” she declared in Swahili, meaning “put a full stop.” “If you can’t support, don’t question. Put your mouth where your money is. I am still the GOAT of philanthropists.”
The post has sparked massive engagement online, with fans praising her transparency and bravery, while others debate the pressures public figures face when they combine fame and charity.
Akothee’s message makes it clear: she’s not here to play small or apologise for her success or her generosity.
This is not the first time Akothee has put critics in their place, but her latest move stands out for its sheer openness, showing just how much she shoulders to keep her philanthropic projects running.
She has been conducting philanthropic activities in the country through her Akothee Foundation. In 2019, she started Turkana Rescue Drive where she partnered with a number of corporates to raise funds and mobilise for food items for the drought stricken families.
