The Ministry for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports has dismissed ongoing speculations about the country’s unpreparedness to host the African Nations Championship (CHAN), which is scheduled to take place in August 2025.
During the official handover of the Raila Odinga Stadium to the National Celebrations Steering Committee, Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya clarified that the current inspection tour by CAF officials is part of the Confederation of African Football’s standard protocol.
“We held a meeting on Friday with the CAF officials because it is standard procedure for CAF to conduct periodic inspections up until the final day in July. In our discussions, we affirmed Kenya’s full readiness to host CHAN,” stated CS Mvurya.
He emphasized that the inspections are designed to evaluate venue readiness, security, infrastructure, accommodation, and coordination frameworks to ensure the tournament’s seamless delivery.
Mvurya reaffirmed the government’s commitment to implementing the recommendations in the CAF inspection report and confirmed that all necessary preparations are progressing on schedule.
“We have heavily invested in infrastructure upgrades, including at Kasarani and Nyayo stadiums, and we have already paid the hosting fee of Sh1.6 billion. The ongoing assessments by CAF are routine and essential to ensure that all host nations align with tournament standards,” he added.
Meanwhile, CAF officials are in the country for a three-day inspection visit to evaluate the country’s readiness to co-host CHAN alongside Uganda and Tanzania.
