Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has criticised the police over
their claim that Juja MP George Koimburi staged his alleged abduction.
Speaking at the Karen Hospital shortly after visiting
Koimburi on Tuesday, Kalonzo said that it was a shame for anyone to say the
legislator abducted himself.
He said the police remarks are unbelievable, insisting that
the Juja MP had torn clothes and was very lucky to be alive.
“When you hear stories like mheshimiwa abducted himself, you
really want to pray for those people because they are evil. You see the torn
clothes, he is lucky to be alive. Shame on anybody who thinks a mheshimiwa can
abduct himself and you want us to believe your story,” Kalonzo said.
His remarks were in response to a statement by the National
Police Service (NPS) on Monday, alleging that Koimburi could have staged his
abduction and that they had launched investigations.
They also denied involvement in the alleged abduction
and subsequent release of Juja MP George Koimburi.
Koimburi was found alive, dumped in Jacaranda coffee
plantation, Kibichoi, Kiambu and taken to hospital.
He was picked up from the plantation on Monday morning,
almost 12 hours after his family and friends said he had been kidnapped in
Mugutha area.
His driver was arrested and taken to DCI headquarters for
grilling, where he explained the MP instructed him to drop him on the road
after learning police were planning to arrest him.
This is in connection with a land case that is under probe.
On Monday, a team visited a church he is said to have been
prior to the said abduction, the scene where the abduction took place, the
scene where he was found in a coffee plantation and two hospitals where he was
attended to.
Police Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga on Monday reaffirmed the
NPS’s commitment to thoroughly investigate all reported cases and bringing
those responsible to justice.
