A funeral ceremony meant to honour a fallen police officer took a wildly unexpected turn when a man dressed in a Kakamega Homeboyz jersey lit a firecracker during the solemn 21-gun salute.
The video of the incident has since gone viral on social media, leaving netizens both amused and bewildered.
The clip begins with uniformed police officers in blue receiving orders, then raising their rifles to perform the ceremonial gun salute, a respected military tradition to honour the dead.
A large crowd had gathered for the event, their faces marked by grief as they came to pay their final respects.
But just as the officers prepared for the final round of gunfire, a man dressed in a bright Kakamega Homeboyz football jersey, military-style trousers, sturdy boots, and a white construction helmet appeared among the mourners. To everyone’s amusement, he pulled out firecrackers.
As the officers raised their rifles for the final volley, the man lit his firecracker and hoisted it into the air almost in perfect sync with the uniformed gunfire.
The device let off a loud bang and a plume of smoke, startling the mourners and even rivaling the sound of the police rifles.
What began as a moment of mourning quickly shifted into a moment of unexpected hilarity.
Mourners, unable to contain themselves, burst into laughter, with some visibly stunned at the comic timing and boldness of the man’s actions.
The viral video stirred countless reactions online, with netizens weighing in with humour and disbelief.
Offialovybz joked, “Kenya kuna mambo mingi sanaa… ata Mungu hutushangaa.”
Bruce-jahiem teased, “Mko sure hii si vaccine ya COVID?”
Meylnkagonya laughed, “Hapa Kenya ni kama mbinguni juu depression ni kujitakia.”
Mangabomomanyi asked, “Mbona huyu mtu wa suti anazuia commander in baruti?”
The video ended with the police marching away from the scene while collecting spent cartridges.
Meanwhile, the man with the firecracker was seen trying to join the march, only to be stopped by a stern-looking man in a suit, much to the continued amusement of the mourners.
