Rigoma Girls’ Secondary School Principal Alice Onywoki at the school in Masaba North, Nyamira County during a prize-giving day on Thursday, June 5, 2025./KNA

Rigoma Girls’ Secondary school Principal has resorted to spending nights with her students after unknown persons shattered windows to her bedroom and locked her house from outside while she slept.

The school is located in Masaba North Subcounty, Nyamira county.

The Principal, Alice Onywoki, is now living in fear, after leaflets criticising her leadership were found near the school compound.

Leaders in the area, parents and teachers castigated the incident and called for fast arrests of the culprits to ensure they are brought to book.

Speaking on Thursday during a prize-giving day for students who posted exemplary performance last year, Onywoki described the happenings of the terror night by people she said were insiders.

Onywoki explained how, on trying to run away, she found the door locked from outside and had to call upon the students who were sleeping in the nearest dormitory to seek help from the watchmen, who seemed not to know what was happening.

She urged the Department of Criminal Investigations to fast-track their investigations to ensure she gets justice.

Masaba North Chairman of the Kenya Secondary Schools’ Heads Association Samson Getamo said all school heads would push for justice for Onywoki because it seemed all of them were under threat.

Calling for respect of the teaching fraternity, Getamo said the principals would not allow anyone to fight school heads for selfish interests.

Subcounty Director of Education Gabriel Ogamba castigated those planning ill for the school and the school head, saying they lacked knowledge and that no one would stop its upward trend.

Citing examples, the subcounty Director expressed faith in the Department of Criminal Investigations, saying they were able to do their work and they would do the same for this case.

Area DCC Stella Wanyela said action had already been taken by the DCI to unearth all criminal activities before, during, and after the incident.

She alleged that all plans were done at the school, but investigations would reveal more, including all persons and areas used to transact the criminal business.

Wanyela urged those aggrieved by the principal to use proper means, including asking for her recall from the school by the Teachers Service Commission, instead of attempting to harm her.

The DCC noted that there were proper means of addressing all issues pertaining to education.

She warned the incident would serve as an example of what would happen to others with such intent in any of the educational institutions in the area.
