A young Kenyan man has captured hearts online after stepping in to help a foreigner who lost his passport to unknown perpetrators in Nairobi.
The foreigner, identified as Cliff Hirneisen, was left stranded following recent anti-police protests that rocked the city.
In a now-viral video, Cliff appeared distressed and despondent, sipping an alcohol-based drink as he expressed his despair.
Having no friends or contacts in Kenya, he turned to social media for help, and there came Thithad.
In a video, he explained that Cliff had no means to buy food or secure shelter following the loss of his travel documents.
“Kama wewe ndiye uliibia huyu jamaa passport, wewe jua tuko na yeye hapa. Anapiga tu makali juu ako kwa a foreign country na amepotea. Anajipanga hapa ata hajui atatoa food wapi, sijui niwekee apo pay bill tujue rada ni gani sasa,” he said.
Three days later, Thithad posted another update, this time showing Cliff safe and housed in his modest bedsitter. The compassionate young man has been taking care of the UK national while rallying support to help him return home.
Cliff, now visibly more at ease, was seen sipping from a plastic cup, a sign of the comfort and care he’s received.
“Siku ya tatu na bado hatujapata passport. Tuko na morio wangu hapa na nimekuwa nikimsaidia. Hizo shughuli tutazishughulikia tujue niaje,” Thithad said in the video.
In a moment of solidarity, Thithad asked Cliff to share a message with Kenyan youths. Cliff simply responded with the word “Retaliate,” a term that has gained popularity amid rising youth protests against police brutality.
Speaking to TNX, Thithad assured viewers that the situation was being handled and expressed hope for a positive resolution.
“Kuna venye io situation inashughulikiwa,” he stated.
Kenyans online have showered praise on Thithad for his kindness.
One Instagram user commented, “That guy will actually go far for his good heart.” Another joked, “Our new minister of Foreign Affairs. Makofi kwake!!”
