Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has sparked amusement and debate online after sharing a candid update about his vehicle’s condition ahead of his second countrywide tour.

Taking to X, Salasya posted a close-up video of one of his car’s severely worn-out tires, cracked and balding dangerously close to the rim.

In his signature mix of humour and honesty, he lamented about the six-figure bill that awaited him to cater for the repairs.

“KDK 037 waaah I have to change all the tires before I commence my second countrywide tour. Waaah kweli my campaigns is where the rubber meets the road,” he said.

Referring to the worn out tires, Salasya continued,”Hizi zilikuwa zime beat I need now 300k to change all the tires. Hehe siasa kweli ni investment inaitwa social capital investment. You invest in social capital but you can’t feel its importance immediately.”

“You invest in social capital but you can’t feel its importance immediately,”  Salasya concluded.

The post, peppered with emojis and political puns, offered a window into the grind behind the scenes of political life, where glossy campaign images often mask the personal sacrifices politicians make.

Salasya shone a light on the financial strain many young politicians endure as they juggle public expectations with limited resources.

His claim that he needs Sh300,000 to replace all the tires drew mixed reactions online, with some followers offering encouragement while others jokingly asked if a fundraising link was coming next.

Salasya has been on a campaign trail for his 2027 presidential bid.

Just days ago, he revealed that if given the chance to make President, he would nominate former CJ David Maraga as Attorney General, highlighting his exceptional track record as the head of the judiciary.

“I will nominate Maraga as my Attorney General. In his career, he demonstrated high moral character and compliance with ethical standards,” the MP posted.

Salasya’s announcement comes just a day after Maraga declared his own intentions to run for the presidency, signaling a potential shift in political alignments ahead of the upcoming 2027 race.

Maraga, who served as Kenya’s Chief Justice from 2016 to 2021, is widely remembered for his historic 2017 ruling that nullified the re-election of former president Uhuru Kenyatta – a landmark decision in Kenya and across Africa
