At 43, Pierra Makena is a force to be reckoned with. She is a trailblazing DJ, actress, and proud single mother who’s been shattering glass ceilings in Kenya’s entertainment scene for nearly two decades.

She is also known for her roles in Tahidi High, Kina and Disconnect.

Her fiercely independent approach to life, particularly her unmarried status and plans to step back from the spotlight, that’s making headlines.

Pierra opened up about her choice to remain unmarried, defying societal expectations with confidence. “Marriage must be right,” she says. “It’s not about society, my parents, or impressing the neighbours, I’ll never marry for pressure.”

Having navigated her share of relationships, she’s clear that commitment is serious business.

“I don’t want to tie myself to someone for life, only to end up in a mess I can’t escape,” she explains. “When the time is right, I’ll know. Until then, I’m happy.”

For Pierra, single life isn’t a gap to fill but she sees it as a space to thrive.

“I get everything a married person gets, so I’m totally unbothered,” she says.

As a single mom to eight-year-old Ricca, Pierra is intentional and protective, dismissing critics who question her parenting choices.

“If you’re not close to my baby, your opinion doesn’t count,” she asserts. Her philosophy is clear: hustle for yourself and your child, no matter the circumstances.

“I’d rather hustle than beg,” she says, emphasizing self-reliance. “You have to survive, no matter what.”

Looking ahead, Pierra is planning a shift in pace. After years of high-energy DJ gigs and screen roles, she’s ready to scale back. “In the coming months, I hope to focus on myself and family,” she says
