Police Sacco Stadium is in the process of renovations, in preparation for the upcoming CHAN competitions.
Internal PS Raymond Omollo, on Thursday said that the upgrade of the stadium is intended to establish it as a professional-level sports and training facility.
The upgrades include maintenance of the playing surface for professionalism, installation of high-quality flood lights to support evening and all-weather training sessions.
Important facilities have also been equipped in the stadium, such as new changing rooms, referee rooms, well-equipped washing areas and conference rooms for proper planning and team briefings.
All these installations are meant to be in line with modern football standards.
“Additionally, the stadium has been fitted with vital facilities that meet the requirements of modern football such as new changing rooms, referee rooms, well-equipped washing areas and conference rooms for tactical planning and team briefings,” Omollo said.
Omollo noted that the stadium will provide professional training and be a ground for tournaments and inter-agency competitions.
“This upgrade positions the Police Sacco Stadium as a premier training ground and a hub for youth tournaments and inter-agency competitions,” he said.
He said that the project brings good relations between service teams and communities, while upholding discipline and national pride.
“It brings disciplined service teams into closer engagement with communities, reinforcing values of teamwork, discipline and national pride,” he added.
He pointed out that the project is a source of employment and its completion is expected to promote business growth.
“The project is also a source of employment, with local artisans, engineers, electricians and service providers actively involved,” he noted.
“Its completion is expected to spur growth in local businesses, from transport and catering to merchandise and accommodation, amplifying its impact beyond sport and into economic revitalisation.”
Similarly, the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, is undergoing a major transformation as Kenya prepares to host two major continental football events the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) and the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The 60,000-seater stadium, located on the outskirts of Nairobi, has already received approval from the Confederation of African Football (CAF), and now, it’s nearly ready to take its place among the continent’s top sporting venues.
