Ugandan-based singer Joshua Baraka, best known for his hit song Wrong Places, has revealed that he is of Kenyan descent.

In a recent interview, Baraka disclosed that his father is Kenyan from Busia, Western Kenya, while his mother is Ugandan.

He also shared that he spent part of his childhood in Eldoret, Kenya. During the interview, Baraka even spoke in his native Kenyan dialect to affirm his heritage.

The conversation about Baraka’s nationality was reignited after the release of his single Wrong Move.

While some TikTok users speculated that the rising star was Kenyan, others were convinced he was Ugandan, given that his music career took off in Uganda.

The debate further intensified on social media, with some users suggesting that Baraka has ties to both Kenya and Rwanda. Although many believed he was Ugandan, the artist currently resides in Uganda.

Kenyan musician Bien also weighed in on the matter, asserting Baraka’s Kenyan heritage. In multiple videos, Bien stated, “I’ve been saying this thing—he is Kenyan.”

His remarks sparked mixed reactions online, with some users supporting his claim and others challenging it.

One social media user commented, “He is not Ugandan, he is Kenyan and Rwandee.”

During a performance at Afro Nation, Bien shouted “Kenya to the world,” a moment many fans saw as a nod to Baraka’s Kenyan identity.

Despite the speculation, Baraka has now clarified his dual heritage, embracing both his Kenyan and Ugandan roots.

Baraka has built a name for himself in East Africa’s music scene through dynamic collaborations and an evolving sound.

Among his standout tracks is Diggi, featuring Mr. Tee and Tenor Boy, which resonated widely with audiences.

With over 200 videos to his name, Baraka continues to show his dedication to music and his passion for collaborating with fellow artists to create memorable work.

A versatile musician, songwriter, and producer, Baraka discovered his love for performing English songs after feeling creatively limited by Luganda songwriting.

This shift opened up a new direction for his artistry and deepened his commitment to music.

His journey began with a performance at a wedding—his first major show—and has since blossomed into a promising career across borders.
