DFG Wolverines and NCBA Wazalendo Pearls on Saturday won their respective Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) Women’s Super League matches as the 2025 season resumed at several venues.

Wolverines, who are looking to secure their return to the Premier League, edged out Daystar University 1-0 at the Impala Club.

Captain Beryl Achieng led from the front, netting the all-important goal to see her side begin their campaign on a high note.

Wolverines, who are among 13 clubs seeking a promotion to the women’s top tier, are among the sides that had not gotten on the pitch this season.

The two sides were matched in all aspects until Achieng struck in the 43rd minute to give her side an edge over the opponents going into the final quarter. The students would fight on in a bid to salvage the game, but Wolverines protected their lead to the whistle to bag maximum points.

At Lenana School, Wazalendo Pearls beat Black Tigresses 1-0 to register their third win. Caroline Nduta’s 22nd-minute penalty conversion was all they needed to condemn the Tigresses to defeat in their season opener. The victory spurred Pearls, who have now played nine matches, into third place with 11 points.

It was a relief for Tigresses as their male counterparts, Tigers, pipped leaders Parklands Sports Club-Legacy 1-0 in the Men’s National League East Zone at the same venue.

After three dull quarters, Kevin Asamba outwitted the Parklands defence to hit the ball past goalkeeper Erick Onsango and give Tigers the much-needed goal in the 48th minute. This was their second defeat of the season following their earlier 0-1 loss to Mombasa Sports Club (MSC).

In the Men’s National League Central Zone contest, hosts Impala thrashed Karate Axiom 4-0 to make their intentions to move up the ladder known. Impala outplayed their guests, scoring two goals in each half and ensuring that they denied them any chance of staging a comeback.

Cajetan Odhiambo and captain Leon Chege scored in the eighth and 12th minutes to give Impala a 2-0 lead by the first quarter break. George Onyango made it 3-0 in the 34th minute, with Chege netting his second five minutes later.
