Malcolm-Jamal Warner, the actor famously known for his role as Theo Huxtable on the iconic 1980s sitcom The Cosby Show, has passed away at the age of 54.

According to People Magazine, Warner died from drowning while on a family trip in Costa Rica, leaving fans and colleagues in shock.

Warner rose to prominence as a child star, portraying the only son of Cliff and Clair Huxtable from 1984 to 1992.

His portrayal of Theo, a relatable teenager navigating adolescence, resonated with millions and made him a household name.

Despite later controversies surrounding the show’s star, Bill Cosby, Warner consistently expressed immense pride in The Cosby Show’s groundbreaking legacy and its profound impact on both Black and American culture.

He often spoke of the show’s importance in showcasing a positive and aspirational Black family on television.

Following his monumental run on The Cosby Show, Warner built a robust and diverse acting career.

He went on to star in the UPN sitcom Malcolm & Eddie and the BET comedy-drama Reed Between the Lines.

His dramatic talents were showcased in roles on TNT’s Major Crimes and USA Network’s Suits.

More recently, audiences saw him in procedural dramas like The Resident, 9-1-1, and Alert: Missing Persons Unit.

Beyond acting, Warner recently launched Not All Hood, a podcast co-hosted with Weusi Baraka and Candace Kelley.

The initiative aimed to tackle mental health barriers within the Black community, providing what Warner described as a “safe space” for candid discussions.

Malcolm-Jamal Warner is survived by his wife and daughter, whose identities he always kept private, cherishing their personal lives away from the spotlight.

He will be remembered for his talent, his thoughtful contributions, and the indelible mark he left on television history.
