A video of late comedian KK Mwenyewe expressing his desire to meet former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has emerged, just days after his death.

The clip now casts a somber light on the young man’s unfulfilled dream.

In the heartfelt video, taken from a past interview, KK spoke with optimism about his ambition to grow his art and one day meet the man he so effortlessly mimicked.

“My biggest goal is to grow my art. I know I will meet him (Gachagua) as a better person than I am at the moment. Maybe then, I will remind him that ‘it was me imitating you, you said you would meet me but you did not’,” he said.

The young comic, known for his witty impersonations of Gachagua, maintained a positive outlook, even when asked about others being recognized before him.

“I did not have anything against that in my heart. I was doing equally well with corporate clients, and my numbers were pretty good. I was too busy to focus on that. However, I took it as motivation to do more,” he said, referring to the appointment of Ivy Chelimo, who was credited with coining Gachagua’s nickname, “Riggy G.”

Still, KK admitted he sometimes hoped for recognition from the former Deputy President.

“I would be lying if I said I did not. I would wake up sometimes and wish he (Gachagua) would call me.”

Gachagua, in a past televised interview, had acknowledged KK’s talent and vowed to find and support him.

“I saw a young man who is mimicking me, I am also going to look for him… I tell you, we must support our young people. I am so passionate,” he said at the time.

The former DP’s message has since resurfaced following KK’s death, prompting public criticism.

Many Kenyans on social media accused him of not following through on his promise while KK was still alive.

Currently on an official trip to the United States, Gachagua had mourned the comedian in a post on X, describing him as a gifted youth who used humour to connect with the nation.

Born Zacharia Kariuki, KK Mwenyewe was laid to rest on Tuesday at his family home in Githirioni, Limuru, surrounded by relatives, friends, and fellow content creators.
