Clinical officers from around the world have honoured the Principal Secretary for Public Health, Mary Muthoni, for her leadership in elevating the global visibility and mobility of Kenya’s health workforce.
The award was presented by the Global
Association of Clinical Officers and Physician Associates (GACOPA).
The PS expressed gratitude for the
honour.
“I am honoured to receive the Citation of Honor from the
Global Association of Clinical Officers and Physician Associates (GACOPA). This
recognition reflects our shared commitment to strengthening Kenya’s health
workforce,” she posted on X.
“Clinical Officers are central to delivering primary
healthcare, especially in underserved areas, and are instrumental in achieving
Universal Health Coverage. It is encouraging to see their dedication now recognised
internationally.”
The recognition comes after Kenyan Clinical Officers received official recognition from the UK’s
General Medical Council (GMC), enabling them to register and practice in the
United Kingdom.
The PS acknowledged the milestone as a significant step
forward that affirms the quality of Kenya’s training institutions and one that
will open up meaningful opportunities for our professionals to thrive globally.
She said: “The recent acknowledgement by the UK’s General
Medical Council (GMC), which allows our Clinical Officers to register and
practice in the United Kingdom, is a significant step forward. It affirms the
quality of our training institutions and opens up meaningful opportunities for
our professionals to thrive globally.”
Speaking during the strategic engagement with GACOPA ahead
of the 5th International Delegates Conference (August 27–30, 2025, Aston
University, UK), she affirmed the Ministry of Health’s commitment to
formalising collaboration with the Ministry of Labour and supporting the
upcoming GACOPA UK conference as a key platform for health workforce
development.
“We will continue working with line ministries and organisations
to support the growth, mobility and global competitiveness of our health
workforce,” she said.
