Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital has announced a
temporary closure of its main entrance.
The move will help to facilitate CGTRH’s scheduled
renovations.
The Hospital said that during the renovation phase, some
areas, including the new registration, activation and cash point areas, will be
available.
Others include the booking area, the reproductive centre, the casualty/
OPD area and the Dental unit.
Patients have been advised to use the casualty gate to
access the hospital.
“Renovations are anticipated to be finished in around three
months, with an effective date of commencement of Wednesday, July 23, 2025.”
Coast Province General is the second largest public hospital
in Kenya after Kenyatta National Hospital, with a 700-bed capacity.
It presently has 672 beds, comprising 546 beds and 126 cots.
The Hospital has the Chief Administrator as the CEO, answerable to the Hospital
Management Board, the Hospital said on its website.
CGTRH has undergone a major overhaul and facelift in both
infrastructure and service delivery.
It boasts of a newly constructed inpatient toilets and showers
block, renovation and expansion of the Mortuary with new refrigeration units, and a standby power generator.
“A vast amount of
sophisticated patient care equipment for surgical theaters, anesthesia,
anesthesia recovery, central sterilisation (CSSD), casualty services, Intensive
Care Unit, patient wards, laboratory, x-ray, ENT unit, eye unit and dental
unit,” the Hospital said.
Some of the services offered are a comprehensive
care clinic, an accidents and
emergency centre, a laparoscopic surgical centre, a diabetes centre
of excellence, dental services
and Maxillo Facial.
Others are ICU and HDU
Units, 24hrs
Laboratory Services and Neuro Surgery
and other specialised surgeries.
