Akothee’s skimpy dress code on stage sparks debate over decency: ‘Too short’

Kenyan musician and businesswoman Akothee has once again set tongues wagging over her bold fashion choice during an event on the sidelines of the Devolution Conference in Homa Bay.

Photos and videos shared online show the star in a thigh-length jacket paired with shorts so tiny they were barely visible, creating the illusion she was wearing just the jacket.

She completed the look with knee-high boots; a classic party-style finish.

At the event, Akothee was seen dancing alongside high-profile figures, including Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, MPs Millie Odhiambo and Naisula Lesuuda.

On Facebook, the self-styled “Madam Boss” brushed off criticism, hyping the look as “RumaNght by Akothee.”

“This is how we are rocking December streets. Warm, long legs. If you got it, show it,” she wrote alongside event photos.

Her outfit drew mixed reactions online.

MC Awesome criticised, “Do we still have women who are familiar with the term ‘decorum’? Are there still women who appreciate societal values?”

Mbewa Onyango weighed in, “The female leadership need to consider what picture they are portraying to the young girls.”

Others jumped to her defence, like Stella Kanja, who wrote: “She went to the event as Akothee, not Esther. Kindly wait for Esther to dress as you want. Mama, I love you… you inspire some of us.”

In another clip from the event, Akothee was spotted dancing with Luo music star Prince Indah, adding more fuel to the conversation.

The singer is no stranger to making headlines for her outfits.

Just last week, she posted a photo in a short dress, clapping back at critics.

“Did you say the dress too short? Ooh darling, it’s the legs longer than the dress,” she quipped.

That post, too, went viral.
