Over the weekend, the Vetlab Sports Club hosted its third edition of the Kabete Parent and Child golf tournament, bringing together families for a day of golf and camaraderie.

A diverse group of participants, including grandchildren, grandparents, and parent-child pairs, teamed up, showcasing the tournament’s popularity within the golfing community.

The event saw an impressive turnout, with families of all generations sharing the greens. The day was filled with spirited competition, further highlighting the growing appeal of this unique family event.

The day was filled with camaraderie and spirited competition, highlighting the growing popularity of this unique family event.

It also featured several categories, ensuring that golfers of all ages and skill levels had a chance to shine. The atmosphere was one of friendly rivalry, with several pairs delivering standout performances.

Eventually, the heart of the competition lay in the age-group categories, where several pairs posted remarkable scores.

In the special category, the pair of Bhupendra Shah and Paras Shah took home the win with a gross score of 86, while Elizabeth Maina and John Munge were placed second with a gross score of 85.

The Putting challenge saw young Shuhan Peng take first place among 28 participants, finishing with an impressive 18 strokes.

In the nine-to ten-year category, a fantastic performance by Itimu Kiruti and Mwacharo Kiruti, 33 gross, while Erick Wakarima and Rehema Wakarima settled for second place with 36 gross.

The 15-16 years category saw the duo of Deep Shah and Rohini Shah prevail with a score of 70. They were followed in second place by the father-son pair of Allan Mugisha and Ephraim Mugisha, who posted 67.

Paresh Kavia and Parv Kavia led the 18-year-and-under group with a gross score of 71, way ahead of KC Kaane and Bello Kaane, who chalked a gross score of 77.

Clinching the overall title were the flashy pair of Tom Macakiage and James Macakiage, who returned the lowest gross score of 68 (4-under) to claim the bragging rights and successfully defend the title they won last year.

Even after jetting back into the country from the USA at 4 a.m., the duo braved the chilly morning cold and jet lag to ink the winning score. In addition, they were bestowed with the Best Dressed Pair award for making a stylish impression on the course.

On their win, James Macakiage said, “I’m happy about the win. I had some strong drives and iron shots, but my father was the key for me in putting.”

“I’m excited about winning the Pn’C competition. We arrived from the US at 4 a.m. today, but James was insistent that we had to come and defend our championship title. This is a major win for us because of the bonding experience with my son,” said Macakiage.

“I encourage other parents to come out for future PNC events. It’s a great experience, full of enjoyment, bonding and sharing. And also, don’t forget to dress well. We were awarded for both the best golf and best dressed parent and child,” he added.
