Forget filters, choreographed dances, and glossy make-up routines. Fardosa, the fast-rising TikTok star from Turkana, is serving Kenyans a different flavour of content, raw, unfiltered, and unapologetically hilarious.

With nothing but her everyday village life, a sharp wit, and a trusty sidekick she fondly calls Shangazi behind the camera, Fardosa has turned ordinary moments into comedy gold, leaving fans across the country in stitches.

While many influencers chase polished aesthetics, Fardosa has built her brand around authenticity.

Her videos, often recorded in the most ordinary of settings, show her cooking, spending time in a local salon for the first time, chatting with friends, or simply engaging fans during her frequent TikTok live sessions.

What sets her apart is her ability to transform these mundane moments into laugh-out-loud skits that strike a chord with Kenyans from all walks of life. Some fans call her ‘Maskini Jeuri’ for not taking cheap things or accepting the basic things offered to her.

Her refusal to wear make-up or conform to social media’s airbrushed standards has made her a relatable icon.

Many describe her as embodying the “kienyeji” charm of Turkana County; unpretentious, proud of her roots, and unafraid to laugh at herself.

It is precisely this refusal to sanitise her life that has won her a loyal fan base who see themselves reflected in her humour.

Among her most talked-about viral clips was the moment she had braids done and, in her usual exaggerated comic fashion, sprinkled salt on them while warning that she might be bewitched simply because too many people had admired her hair.

Food is another recurring theme in her content. Fardosa has strong opinions about what she will and will not eat, often turning these into hilarious punchlines.

She once declared she cannot stand rice mixed with beans. But perhaps the biggest running gag in her comedy is her love for Mala (Fermented milk).

Fardosa claimed she drinks ten 500 ml packs of mala every single day. With her signature deadpan tone, she joked, “Daktari alisema nikunywe mala na nikule nyama choma.”

Her exaggerated love for meat has become another part of her comedic identity. No matter what the situation, she often finds a way to end her skits with a craving for nyama choma, punctuated by her now-famous catchphrase, “Asante shangazi.”

For many fans, Fardosa’s comedy has become more than just entertainment; it’s a daily dose of joy.

Kenyans have praised her for being real and funny, with one fan declaring she is the definition of “if it’s not my way, it’s no way,” while another quipped, “If you’ve not seen Fardosa, then you don’t know what standards are.”

In an industry where influencers are pressured to present curated versions of themselves, Fardosa’s rise shows that authenticity still sells. By simply being herself, funny, bold, and proudly Turkana, she has not only carved her niche but also built a community of fans who eagerly wait for her next video.

From her small corner of Turkana, Fardosa has shown that one does not need glitz or glamour to shine online.
