Madagascar made it to the quarterfinals of Africa Nations Championships after dismissing Burkina Faso 2-1 in their last Pool B outing at Amaan International Stadium in Zanzibar City on Saturday.

Madagascar finished runners up in her four matches with seven points tying with Mauritania but had a superior goals aggregate against the West Africans in the Pool B.

Madagascar had scored five goals against two while Mauritania had two goals against one therefore finishing third in the final tally.

In the match, Giles Razafimaro shot Madagascar into the lead in the seventh minute after he chipped the ball over Burkina Faso goalkeeper Moussa Traore.

The goal inspired the Islanders to strengthen their attacks in the Western Africans’ territory.

Burkina Faso who were playing their last group as a formality after earlier being knocked out of the continental showpiece equalised in the 25th minute from the efforts of Soulemane Sangare from a goalmouth scramble.

After the equaliser, the match swung from one territory to the other making it entertaining in search for more goals from both ends.

As both were getting to a 1-1 deadlock at the breather,  they equally made two quick substitutions.

Momena Rafanomezantsoa scored the winner in the first quarter of the second half to send their fans into celebrations.

Madagascar goalkeeper Ramandimbisoa Michel was voted man of the match in this encounter.

Madagascar who were the first to make substitutions brought in Ryan Hery Rajaonarivelo for Jean Luc Ranaivoson while the West Africans benched Ousmane Siry for Damassi Konate to come in on the first half that ended at 1-1.

In the second half, both teams were balanced in the first quarter when Burkina Faso made another substitution benching Sangare (Soulemane) for Papus Quattara that made them pin their opponents in their own half for some time then.

More substitutions followed for both teams in the last quarter of the last half before an additional seven minutes of injury time, which made no difference.

A total of 2649 fans attended the match.
