Consolata Nabwire Wakwabubi has been sworn in as a nominated senator, following her nomination by the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Nabwire replaces Gloria Orwoba, who lost her seat after being expelled from UDA for alleged disloyalty.
Senate Speaker Amason Kingi administered the oath of office during a special sitting on Wednesday, August 20.
Senators later congratulated Wakwabubi and offered words of advice.

Senate Majority Whip Bonny Khalwale praised her role in UDA’s 2022 campaigns and underscored the importance of party discipline.
“This is a crowning moment for the effort that the UDA has gone through in appreciating the contribution of one of the women who made a huge difference during our campaigns to ensure that the President forms government,” remarked Khalwale.
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna urged Nabwire to deliver for the women she now represents, while Machakos Senator Agnes Kavindu reminded her of the work ahead and called for dedication to service.
Although nominated in May, Wakwabubi waited three months to take office as Orwoba challenged her ouster in court. The petition was later dismissed.
Last week, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) gazetted Wakwabubi’s nomination from UDA’s 2022 party list.
Her swearing-in allowed her to participate immediately in the impeachment proceedings against Kericho Governor Erick Mutai.
A known grassroots mobiliser in Kimilili Constituency and Bungoma County, Wakwabubi is considered a staunch UDA loyalist. She previously served as chief executive for public administration in Bungoma under Governor Kenneth Lusaka’s first term.
She holds a master’s degree in project planning and management from the University of Nairobi.
Speaking in Bungoma after her nomination in May, Nabwire credited her community for the appointment.
“I want to thank the President. When he looked around Bungoma, he saw the daughter of Wakwabubi and saw it fit to reward the people of Bungoma by making Consolata his nominated senator,” Nabwire said.
“This is not my seat, it belongs to the people of Kimilili and Bungoma.”
