Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has pledged continued government support for initiatives that expand access to healthcare, especially in underserved parts of the country.

Mudavadi made the commitment on Friday during the commissioning of a digital X-ray machine at Itando Mission Hospital in Vihiga County.

The equipment, worth Sh3.5 million, was donated by the Kenya Pipeline Company Foundation (KPC Foundation).

The Prime Cabinet Secretary said the facility will ease the burden on patients who previously travelled to Kakamega and Kisumu counties for diagnostic services.

He described the donation as a boost to the government’s push for universal health coverage.

“I want to thank the Kenya Pipeline Company Foundation for their dedication to improving healthcare access not only in Vihiga County but also in grassroots communities across the country,” Mudavadi said.

“The commissioning of this digital X-ray machine is a step toward achieving universal health coverage and ensuring quality medical services for all Kenyans. It reflects our bigger goal of helping communities live healthier lives.”

He called on residents to take care of the equipment, saying it should serve generations to come.

The donation reflects KPC Foundation’s focus on inclusive and equitable healthcare.

According to the organisation, the equipment will empower local providers to deliver timely and reliable diagnostic services while restoring trust in the county’s health system.

KPC Foundation Board of Trustees member Joyce Emanikor said the organisation’s work is anchored on three pillars—health, education, and water and sanitation.

“Investing in healthcare is key to unlocking a brighter future for all Kenyans. Today’s commissioning reflects our belief that health is a fundamental human right and the cornerstone of thriving communities,” she said.

She added that the Foundation will continue supporting projects across the country through funds from the Kenya Pipeline Company.

Sister Catherine Barare, the hospital’s administrator under the Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate, welcomed the donation.

“This X-ray machine is more than just equipment. It is a symbol of hope, progress, and commitment to a healthier future for all,” she said.

The project is part of KPC Foundation’s growing healthcare portfolio. Other investments include a Sh8 million healthcare facility in Laikipia, a  Sh5 million dispensary in Meru, and a KES 5 million newborn unit in Mombasa.

In Vihiga County, the Foundation has also commissioned a 100-capacity dormitory at Chavakali High School to ease congestion.
