Gengetone star Shalkido opens up on hardship, begs Kenyans for help

Gengetone artiste Shalkido, best known for the catchphrase “Shalkido mi huspin na mayeng,” has made a heartfelt appeal to Kenyans and digital creator Eric Omondi after revealing he is struggling financially.

In a series of emotional Instagram stories, the Ni Tekenye hitmaker opened up about his difficulties as a father, saying he has tried every hustle possible to provide for his family but has reached a dead end.

“As a Kenyan artiste and a father, nimefika mwisho. I’ve tried my very best to support my family, but everything goes south. I’ve tried every hustle but imekuwa noma,” he wrote.

The Sailors Gang member went on to specifically seek Omondi’s support, describing him as a public figure who has recently embraced activism and philanthropy through his Sisi kwa Sisi initiative.

“I’m really humbled to ask my beautiful great Kenyans to help me share this post ifikie Eric Omondi. Mhesh, I’m really humbled kuomba support yako,” he added.

The artiste, whose real name is Paul Koigi Mungai, said he would even appreciate being supported with a motorcycle to start a boda boda business to sustain his family. He pleaded with fans to share his post widely until it reached Omondi.

Alongside his statements, Shalkido shared a photo of his modest home — showing a mattress on the floor and utensils on the side — as well as a weary selfie.

The images left many fans heartbroken, sparking an outpouring of empathy.

Kenyans flooded his comments section with encouragement and offers to help. “It shall be well bro,” wrote Caroll Muthoni.

Deejay Dell added, “Let’s help him, uku nje si kurahisi,” while another fan asked for his number to send financial support.

Some users, however, urged young people to avoid rushing into marriage and parenthood without financial stability.

Omondi, who has not yet responded to Shalkido’s plea, has in recent months been actively raising funds for families affected by tragedies during protests.

His philanthropic work is one of the reasons Shalkido is counting on his intervention.
