Police have opened a death investigation after a decomposing body was found inside an impounded Tesla registered to pop artist D4vd.

Officers were called to Hollywood Tow on the 1000 block of North Mansfield Avenue following reports of a foul odor coming from a vehicle at the lot.

When investigators examined the Tesla, they discovered human remains wrapped in a bag inside the car’s front trunk, according to police and news reports.

The Tesla was traced to David Anthony Burke, known professionally as D4vd, through its Texas registration, law enforcement sources told reporters.

The vehicle had been towed to the impound yard after being reported abandoned in the Hollywood Hills several days earlier.

Police emphasized that the discovery prompted a criminal investigation and that their work remains active according to ABC News+1.

The Los Angeles County medical examiner described the remains as “severely decomposed” and said the decedent “appears to have been deceased inside the vehicle for an extended period of time.”

The office said the remains were those of a female roughly 5-foot-2, with wavy black hair and jewelry noted on the scene; it also cited a tattoo on the right index finger that reads “Shhh….”

In a statement to NBC Los Angeles, a representative for D4vd said the singer “has been informed about what’s happened, and although he is still out on tour, he is fully cooperating with the authorities.”

The artiste performed on his scheduled dates while the investigation was underway, according to concert reporting.

Investigators have not named any suspects and have not said whether there is a direct link between the owner of the car and the death.

The discovery also triggered immediate commercial fallout. Retail partners that had recently used the artist in promotional material removed campaign content featuring him “out of respect” while authorities probe the case, several outlets reported.

In a joint message cited by fashion and business press, the companies said they were “aware of this developing story” and had temporarily taken down material featuring the singer pending additional information.
