Police in Athi River, Machakos county, are investigating an incident where a man’s body was found lying in a ditch early Tuesday.

Police said the matter was reported to Muungano police station by one of his kin.

The matter was recorded at the station as a suspected murder incident report.

The reportee, a resident of Githunguri village in Mavoko, told police that today at around 5.40 am, he was informed by one of his relatives that Timothy Mutugi Kanyago had died.

He, according to a police officer privy to the incident, made the report at 7.45 am Tuesday.

Police said the reportee said he rushed to the scene and found his close relative’s body lying in a ditch along the Githunguri Jetview area, about 3 km north of Muungano police station.

“Officers from this command, in company of the DCI Mlolongo and Scenes of Crime Investigations personnel, attached to Mlolongo police station, visited the scene and established that the deceased’s body was lying in a supine position with multiple injuries,” a police source told the Star on Tuesday.

The scene was processed and documented by the Scenes of Crime personnel before it was moved to the Kenyatta University Funeral home pending an autopsy.

The DCI, Mlolongo, have launched a probe into the incident.
