Thousands more patients across Kenya will now have access to
advanced diagnostic services following the successful delivery and installation
of CT scan machines in 14 additional counties.
The exercise was done by Sunview Medipro, under the National
Equipment Service Program (NESP).
The newly equipped counties include Nairobi (which received
two machines), Mombasa, Nyeri, Kakamega, Murang’a, Garissa, Samburu, Kajiado,
Marsabit, Tharaka Nithi, Bomet, Nyandarua and West Pokot.
This latest rollout brings the total number of counties with
Sunview-supplied CT scanners to 19, following earlier installations in Wajir,
Mandera, Kisumu, Lamu,and Kirinyaga.
“This is more than just delivering machines – it is about
equipping hospitals with the tools to save lives, digitising diagnostics, and
ensuring patients get accurate results closer to home,” Sunview Medipro CE Sirat
Amin said.
Since the rollout began in May 2025, over 5,000 CT scans
have already been performed.
Clinicians report that access to in-county imaging has
significantly reduced referrals to national hospitals, cut down travel costs
for patients and enabled earlier diagnosis and treatment.
These outcomes are already transforming healthcare delivery
at the county level.
Led by the government, the NESP initiative aims to close
longstanding gaps in public healthcare by partnering with reputable medical
technology providers.
In addition to supplying high-end diagnostic equipment,
Sunview Medipro supports the program’s sustainability goals by training
biomedical engineers, radiographers and clinicians to operate and maintain the
machines.
With the completion of this latest phase, the program is
poised to benefit thousands more Kenyans, a major step toward equitable,
accessible and digitised healthcare nationwide.
The first phase saw the deployment of an initial 24 diagnostic imaging CT
scan machines, two diagnostic imaging mammogram machines, 30 operating
theaters, and 100 laboratories across the country.
Some of the beneficiaries were Jaramogi Oginga Odinga
Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kisumu, King Fahd Lamu County Referral
Hospital, Kerugoya County Referral Hospital and Wajir County Referral Hospital
have begun in earnest.
