LSK West Kenya branch has condemned the killing of Senior Counsel Kyalo Mbogu, describing it as a cold-blooded assassination that has left the legal fraternity in shock and fear.
Speaking to journalists in Kisumu on Friday, LSK West Kenya chairperson Grace Otieno said the murder was not merely a personal tragedy but a calculated attack on justice itself.
“This heinous act casts a dark and frightening shadow over our community. Advocates handling sensitive cases—from land disputes and corruption to human rights violations—face threats daily. The killing of Senior Counsel Mbogu confirms that these threats are real and executed with brazen impunity,” Otieno said.
The branch urged the National Police Service to expedite transparent investigations and ensure the immediate arrest and prosecution of those responsible.
Otieno also highlighted rising insecurity in Kisumu County, calling on the County Security Team to adopt proactive policing measures and respond swiftly to threats.
LSK Council member Vincent Githaiga, speaking on behalf of LSK President Faith Odhiambo, noted that three days had passed without arrests.
“We are alarmed. It is incomprehensible that no arrests have been made despite the killing occurring in broad daylight. Nairobi and Kisumu alike are becoming increasingly insecure. This must be the last death of an advocate under such circumstances,” he said.
Githaiga warned that if authorities fail to act, LSK would escalate the matter, including petitioning the Inspector General of Police and pursuing legal action against negligent security officials.
Advocate Dick Osala also urged Kenyans not to become instruments of violence.
“It is not okay to kill. Do not let yourself be used to take another’s life. Time will catch up with you,” he said.
The legal fraternity has pledged solidarity with Mbogu’s family and vowed to pursue accountability, insisting that the murder of an advocate must not instill fear or undermine the pursuit of justice in Kenya.
